SalamanderU
" SalamanderU and Solidfog Technologies are two companies with expertise in innovative customised containment solutions and industrial biotechnology operations, and the second specialises in airborne surface decontamination systems (hydrogen peroxide - H2O2 nebulisation). They have collaborated to provide a simple and robust operational solution for the decontamination of FFP2 masks in large quantities and to be installed directly within the hospital environment. The solution consists of a "CleanBubble®" containment chamber, which can be assembled in less than half an hour, consisting of a flexible envelope attached to an aluminium structure, a vacuum unit equipped with a HEPA filter and a "DosyMist®" decontamination unit that generates an H2O2 mist. This containment chamber is also equipped with the digital "SmartReg®" solution which vocally controls the operators during disinfection and automatically generates a decontamination report. The solution allows to disinfect...

Erasme Hospital

ULB - Fablab ULB
" A multidisciplinary team at the Fablab ULB (Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium) has developed and produced different open-source emergency protective solutions against Covid-19 for hospitals and caregivers. Most of these solutions have been developed within the global fablab network using digital fabrication machines (laser cutter, 3D printers,...) and open-source documentation which allowed other fablabs in the world to develop and produced these solutions locally. Face Protective Masks Face Protective Masks have been developed to protect caregivers from aerosol projection. Thanks to a lot of help (other fablabs, architectural offices, students, volunteers,...), we have produced more than 50 000 Protective Face Shields and distributed them in hospitals and to other caregivers. This project was made in collaboration with Fab-C (Charleroi), fablab Yourlab (Andenne) and the Hospital CHU Saint-Pierre in Brussels and supported by the Michel Crémer Foundation. Swabs...

"DECONTAMINATION AND REUSE OF SURGICAL MASKS AND FILTERING FACEPIECE RESPIRATORS The global test protocol, presented in this project, aims to assess: a) the effectiveness of several decontamination methods with regard to integrity (""barrier"" function) and the quality of surgical masks and filtering facepiece respirators FFP2/N95; b) the efficacy of these decontamination methods on the inactivation of a coronavirus, similar to the SARS-CoV-2 virus present on surgical masks and filtering facepiece respirators FFP2/N95. Moreover, the present project aims to set up a consortium of companies and laboratories to meet the diverse and varied requests for ""reuse"" of various medical protective equipment (masks, filters, clothing, etc.) linked with the environmental approach."

" During the Covid-19 crisis, I participated in a multidisciplinary research group (biology, medicine, economy) whose objective was to define a deconfinement strategy taking into account public health and economic requirements. We have published several articles for policy makers (VOX-EU), scientists (Nature medicine) and the general public (The Conversation). "

" This study aims to assess the potential roles of spike glycoproteins and viral proteins encoded by ORF6, ORF7a, ORF8 and ORF10 in the antagonism of several known restriction factors (BST-2, GBP5, IFITM, ...) and in the modulation of innate immune responses (NF-kB pathway and IFN response). These proteins will be expressed in different cell models and we will define their ability to bind and/or degrade restriction factors. Depending on results, we will perform sequencing (NGS) of these genes from clinical isolates in order to observe whether the genetic variability can be linked to the pathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2 viruses. " Because of the persistence of viruses on surfaces, they represent Indirect transmission vectors of diseases. If many antibacterial surfaces exist, virucidal surfaces are more challenging. This project aims at developping Superior virucidal surfaces. This project is a collaboration between the ChemSIN (synthesis of surfaces), the laboratory of Molecular virology and the Centre for Diabetes Research of ULB "

" Visors for face masks produced at FabLab Mons. In collaboration with Fab-C Charleroi Métropole and FabLab Wapi, FabLab Mons is currently producing visors for nursing staff. These visors extend the life of the masks by preventing splash contamination. This has been made possible with the financial support of the FRMH and the donation of transparent sheets from multiple organisations, which has enabled the FabLab to distribute several thousand visors (23,000+ distributed to date) to medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, nursing home staff, opticians and audiologists.
